the book is very good, of course, not least because krakauer has a great deal of respect, even attachment.
and sean penn has done not a very bad job on the film. although i do believe reasons aren't always attributable, and almost never attributable with such definition.
i think the self-portrait in front of the bus is remarkable.

well, yes. and the lead is good, too.
i take exceptions to many things in the film, but on the whole it is a great mercy that the average ham-handed american director wasn't on to it.
however, you want to read the book above all.

i think the book's beter. saw the video RIM posted on his blog. it's kinda hollywoodish i think, very much that, actually.
@r-i-m: so it says, and although i suspect it isn't mccandless, it's quite good.
@hack: hee hee, that 'trailer' is almost a flawless throwing together, of the most unfortunate moments (and says) of the film.
the film IS hollywood, but i'm not being pejorative here.
